We had the pleasure of a visit from winemaker/dynamo, Anna Martens, at the shop and were charmed by the beauty and purity of her Etna wines. So much energy and finesse.
+ GRAPES: Biodynamic. ~90% Nerello Mascalese, ~10% indigenous white grapes grown on two different elevations Mount Etna's slopes in Sicily.
+ PROFILE: Dry, medium body. Fresh and textural - crunchy cranberry, red cherry, blood orange, apple skin, and a mineral lick. Slightly savory and serious, yet joyful to drink.
+ FUNDAMENTALS: 100% whole-cluster. Wild yeast. 3 days maceration in fiberglass, followed by aging in 2,000 liter Georgian quevri (based on ancient clay vessels). Left on the fine lees for six months. Unfined, unfiltered. Less than 2mgL sulfur at bottling.
+ IF, THEN: If you like Cornelissen's Susucaru, give this a try!
