Beaujolais, that is, from the under-appreciated cru of Règniè [ray-knee-aye] in France.
+ GRAPE: 100% Gamay from 70+ year-old vines. Practicing organic.
+ PROFILE: Dry, rather serious. Cocoa-cherry on the nose, followed by black cherries, blackberry, earthy soil, crushed flowers and an iron minerality. Medium tannins, bright acidity.
+ FUNDAMENTALS: Late-harvest grapes ensure ripe stems; this is critical given that wine is whole-cluster fermented. This wine vinified in the traditional semi-carbonic method, using only wild yeast strains to start fermentation. The vats are only partially covered. Aging takes place in cementer vats. Zero added sulfites. 12.5% ABV.
