Delicious chillable red from an oddball grape.
+ GRAPE: Organic. 100% Sezao, grown in Portugal's Vinho Verde region.
+ PROFILE: Dry and brambly. Crunchy blackberry, black currant, plum, damp earth. It's giving Lambrusco. Bright acidity on the tail. Enjoy me with a nice chill and something off the grill.
+ FUNDAMENTALS: Hand-harvested grapes. All stainless steel vessels. Undergoes carbonic maceration - which lends its characteristic sprtiziness. Unfined, light filtration, vegan. Low, 11% ABV makes this totally summer-sessionable.
+ MEET SEZAO: Via Wikipedia - Sezão [Spanish: Sousón], formerly known as Souzão, is a Portuguese wine grape that is used in the production of port and table wines. GEEKY STUFF: Genetic distinction between Souzão and Vinhão: 'The names Souzão and Vinhão were once used as synonyms for the same variety, but recent research has shown that while they are genetically close, they are two distinct varieties. For this reason, the name has been changed to Sezão and formally registered this way in Portugal's Coleção Ampelográfica Nacional (National Ampelographic Collection).'
